Long-time veteran trading card game (TCG) player Tyler, representing YGG Esports, secured the championship title at the invitational debut tournament for Ubisoft’s new digital card game, Might & Magic: Fates.
The event took place on the Arena stage of the YGG Play Summit in Manila. This marks the first competitive showcase for the unreleased title from the major game publisher.
Tyler defeated web3 gaming content creator Archer Perez in the finals to claim the US$1,500 top prize out of a US$5,000 total pool. The invitational featured eight contenders, including Hearthstone professionals CaraCute and Staz, YGG Esports members Feno and spamandrice, and content creators Een Mercado and VMiguel Gonzales.
Testing Ground for Esports Ambitions
Sylvain Loe Mie, Executive Producer at Ubisoft, presented the award to Tyler and highlighted the strategic importance of launching the tournament in Manila.
“We have strong ambitions for the esports future of Might & Magic: Fates, and we’re incredibly happy to host this first tournament here in Manila during the YGG Play Summit,” Loe Mie said. “This event is an important testing ground to explore the game’s competitive potential with real professional players and high-level competitors.”
Might & Magic: Fates is set in a convergence of fractured timelines where players use cards to summon allies and generate resources. The game has drawn comparisons to established TCGs like Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering.
For this specific tournament, both Tyler and his co-finalist Perez utilized “Haven” decks, a faction favored by competitors for its defensive units and spells.
Validating Web3 Esports

Mike Ovecka, Head of Esports at YGG, noted that the inclusion of a legacy publisher like Ubisoft at a web3-focused event signals a shift in the industry.
“Having a major publisher like Ubisoft showcase a new title at the Summit further validates web3 esports as a high-impact segment of the broader gaming ecosystem,” Ovecka stated.
Broader Summit Activities

The tournament ran concurrently with other major activities at the summit. The “Town Hall” stage featured discussions from industry leaders including Oliver Maroney of OpenSea, Jeffrey “Jihoz” Zirlin of Sky Mavis, Theodore Agranat of Gunzilla Games, and Luke Barwikowski of Pixels. The summit’s exhibition area, dubbed the “City of Play,” is divided into districts catering to different segments of the community, from the “Skill District” for upskilling to the “Degen District” for crypto-native gamers.
The competitive schedule continues over the next two days with the US$100,000 YGG Parallel Showdown and the US$20,000 Vibes Asian Championship. The event will also host the annual GAM3 Awards on November 21.
